There are two aspects to this trip:

1. The Ilaamee Mission Convention (April 21-22): a stadium event in which thousands of non-believers are expected to be in attendance. The emphases of the event are evangelism, worship, and commissioning missionaries.

2. The Theological Conference hosted by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (April 23-27): attended by theological educators, Bible school teachers, and pastors, the emphases will be on equipping, encouraging, and empowering leaders. Mike is scheduled to speak on Wednesday the 25th at 11:00 a.m. (1:00 a.m. Arizona time).

Why are we taking this trip? There are more than five million evangelical, charismatic Lutherans in Ethiopia, and we have been asked by the leaders of this movement to send representatives from the Alliance of Renewal Churches and the Masters Institute (our seminary). The main purpose of our journey is to begin fostering relationship with these leaders and discern the connections that God is bringing together.

Mike and I ask that you pray for us and our families as we travel. There is a prayer signup sheet available at the church; you are invited to choose a day to remember Mike and I (and our Ethiopians Brothers and sisters) in prayer, and for those who choose to, to fast on that day as well.

Ministry Vision for 2012

Our mission statement is Experiencing God, Loving Each Other, Serving the World. For 2012 the emphasis will be on the first aspect of that statement, Experiencing God.

It is our conviction that in a time of economic upheaval, elevated uncertainty, and escalating fear, what we need most right now is to be continually experiencing God – his strengthening, his comfort, his life, his provision, his goodness, his generosity, his kindness. If we are experiencing God we will be far less fearful in troubling circumstances and far more confident of his perfect care for us.

Experiencing God is not just a slogan or a vision statement. It is a way of life commended to us by the Lord in Scripture. Paul reflects this in his prayer for the believers in Ephesus. “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully,” he tells them in Ephesians 3:19. “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

We are planning special events with guest speakers who will minister on the theme of experiencing God. These include Dawn Lundgren, a gifted and reliable prophetic voice, who will be with us in February. Joe Johnson, whose life message is anchored in the importance of touching the Father’s heart, will be with us the week after Easter for an Experiencing God conference.

Additionally, once a month we will have corporate gatherings specifically for the purpose of experiencing God together.
